Till now the world had only seen Nissan’s vehicles badge-engineered by Renault. The Nissan Terrano, on the contrary, happens to be a Renault Duster underneath. Nissan had to make the Terrano strikingly different from the Renault Duster and to do that they redesigned and changed everything on the outside. Every metal panel, bumpers and even the tail lights have been changed.
The front has worked beautifully as the Terrano looks sleek yet tough. The new hood flows into the chrome V shaped grille, as do the tapering head lights, and the new bumper adds a tough edge to it. The rear gets a new tail gate with tail lamps that spread inwards. It looks a lot like the Duster from the sides – the profile, the window lines, the window glass area – though the doors look more rounded, and the new machine finished 18“ alloy wheels look classy.
Nissan has tried to make a difference even on the inside. The steering wheel, with the silver accents looks smart though it lacks controls for the music system. The new air ducts are rectangular and have a small store box on top. The music system has an option of a 6.1 inch touch screen system. Though the cabin has a good amount of appeal, and appears spacer and looks richer than the Duster, there are a few drawbacks that one will notice. The controls of the ORVMs are found beneath the hand brake. Though the front seats lack lateral support, the rear seats have good support and decent space in the front. Top variants have rear air vents. The boot is wide, deep and tall.
Nissan Terrano comes in both petrol and diesel engine based variants. The 1.5-liter diesel engine is a 1461 cc, common rail direct injection, dCi pure drive mill which has a power output of 83.8 bhp and 108.5 bhp. The 83.8 bhp power generating diesel engine is mated with five speed manual transmission, while the 108.5 bhp power generating diesel engine comes mated with a six speed manual transmission.
Petrol version is equipped with a 1598 cc 1.6-litre multi point fuel injection based petrol engine that yields 102.6 bhp at 5850 rpm along with a pounding 145 Nm of peak torque value at 3750 rpm, mated to a five speed manual transmission gear box.
With its outstanding ride quality and comfort over any kind of road, one cannot deny that the Nissan Terrano looks sleeker and feels richer. This car comes in the price range of Rs. 9.47 lakh to Rs. 12.30 lakh.
